I just took a four day Amtrak from Harper’s Ferry, WV to Emeryville, CA; three trains, three rooms. Four days of tree canopies, plains, vistas, towns, and four days of no wi-fi and barely there cell service. I took care of my mother for the last five months through a brutal illness, and her passing, the estate, the service and the constant pull on me was exhausting. To go from a place of constant high-alert to…was the best Rx for me. My rooms were my sanctuaries, where I could curl up, stare, nap, snack (snacks are important!), nap, read, and sleep. I would highly recommend this kind of trip for a slow-cation. I hope you consider doing a trip like this as I’d love to see your perspective on American train travel (which is ok for the accommodations but hundo p for the restoration needs.)

That side of the country just does somethin’ to ya. Seattle, BC, Alaska are kind of like nothing else. I have to ask, did you see any Orcas? Seattle usually has tons as well as all throughout BC and Alaska.

If you ever make it back to Washington I can tell ya all the spots—they’re not in Seattle. But I’ve seen them from the shores so many times from the islands. It’s really pure magic. I used to live about 10 minutes from the Mukilteo ferry docs and we’d hop on and go to Whidbey Island multiple weekends a month ALL year long with our kids. Day trips were so easy. And the beaches, we’d just walk there and see whale pods all the time. It’s really magical and just I don’t know, chefs kiss 😘 I know I’m biased being from this part of the country but I know what a special time you’ve been having because it’s so beautiful it’s hard not to cry just existing in the elements of it all.
