7 Preppy Coastal Outfits I Can’t Quit
The effortlessly elevated looks I’ll be turning to all summer
Last Sunday, I spent the day in my closet planning outfits for the week ahead. To be honest, I’ve been doing this quite a lot lately. Having outfits ready in advance makes the week run so much more smoothly. I don’t waste an hour staring at my closet thinking, “I have nothing to wear,” because it’s all perfectly preplanned.
Before you assume this is a long and arduous process, let me reassure you: once you get going, it’s like reaching a runner’s high. Outfits just come to you. Trust me. Give your closet one uninterrupted hour each week, and you’ll save seven in return.
Here’s what my hour gave me—should you need inspiration for planning your own summer outfits—with a few notes on why these are the looks I’ll keep coming back to all season. Just a reminder: I’m 6’2 and wear a size 16/XL in the USA.
1. A Coastal Brunch…

A terry striped top has become my summer staple—a staple I didn’t know I needed. Paired with tall, wide-leg trousers that are light as air and perfect for summer, this look feels casual but wonderfully pulled together. Stripes always win.
2. Dinner with The Parents…

A simple white summer dress has always had a place in my closet. It can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, and this new addition to my closet will see summer events and casual breakfasts alike.
3. Sunset Cocktails…

Jeans in the summer! Shock horror. Call me crazy, but I love a vintage-look pair of jeans on the hottest of days with a simple tank. Accessorizing, in the end, can make or break the look.
4. A Lowcountry Lunch…

Ladies, cheesecloth separates are your best friend in summer, even in darker colours. While I wear this set on its own quite regularly, I love an opportunity to jazz it up a bit with a belt, waistcoat, or both!
5. Business Meetings in Beaufort…

When all else fails, keep it monochromatic and/or neutral. From afar, this looks like a rather subdued outfit. Get a little closer and you’ll find a rewarding fringe detail for a little fun.
6. Daytripping by Boat…

This is a sporty look for a day on the water, and that skirt is actually a skort! Just saying! It's all white from head to toe with a splash of that perfect stripe I keep banging on about.
7. Ready for a Supermarket Sweep…

I’ve never owned white overalls before. To be frank, I thought it might be a bit of a dangerous combo. I like to get down and dirty in overalls, so white feels risky. I have a choice to make… keep them clean or work hard to give them stained memories! Right now, I’m enjoying matching clean white tee to clean white overalls (just a tip – try pairing your jean overralls with a chambray shirt for summer… a super chic look)!

These are all fabulous but I loooove number 3! That necklace !! The fringed top - separated from its skirt but so cute with jeans ! And the unexpected splash of red for the sandals. Dreamy !
